Andre Russell, who had not bowled this season, took just one ball to make an impact by dismissing Mayank Agarwal for 9. He also got Rahul Tripathi out, ending his over with two wickets.

Knight Riders seemed defeated, but captain Rana revived the chase by hitting Umran Malik for five fours and two sixes in the sixth over, adding 28 runs and ending the powerplay at 62 for 3.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the third ball. Marco Jansen took out Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine in the fourth over, leaving Knight Riders at 20 for 3.
